27th September 2009 ‘COME AS YOU ARE!!’ This page is for updates about Back To Church Sunday 2009 as they come in so please keep revisiting us to keep up to date. 'Come as you are' is the theme for Back To Church Sunday 2009 which is taken from Luke 19 1-10 - the story of Zaccheus the tax collector. The training dates are Tuesday 10 March @ St Mary, Riverhead; Monday 16 March @ St Barnabas, St Paul's Cray and Thursday 26 March @ St George, Gravesend. The times for all these trainings will be 7.30pm for 7.45pm. Click here for a copy of the flyer for training dates and venues The closing date for orders will be similar to last year - 8 May 2009 and they will have to be ordered as in previous years - through the Diocese. Click here to obtain a copy of the order form and the different packs. Have a look at the new look Back to Church Sunday website www.backtochurch.co.uk There are different packs this year at different prices, please click here for a list and there is a new Back To Church Sunday prayer, please click here for a copy. Read what some of the participants from our Diocese had to say in 2008 - "It's not the number of new people you get, it's the change of the people inside the church, they change their awareness". St Stephen, Rochester "One young woman was passing the church on the Sunday morning, saw the posters and balloons, heard the music and decided to come in and see what was happening. She then stayed for the whole service.” St Mark, Biggin Hill "We saw new people and old friends
and they all commented on how welcomed they felt. The established members
enjoyed themselves, too.” St Peter, Bredhurst “We used the balloons as part
of our service as a symbol of the unseen God who seeks to empower our
lives. Congregation blew up the balloons with ‘unseen’ air,
and then together let them go, powered into the air by the ‘unseen’
air.” St Peter & St Paul, Shorne Was your church one of the ones that participated in 2008? Is there anyone from your Deanery listed? If not, why not? The churches listed below joined Back To Church Sunday 2008 along with thirty eight Church of England dioceses from Cornwall to Newcastle plus Churches Together in Scotland, the Church in Wales, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed churches nationwide, Elim Pentecostal churches and Anglican churches in New Zealand and Canada. In 2008 37,000 people came Back To Church in England and that is only from churches that were taking part in the official BTCS programme - 20% of these were non-Anglican. This year as well as the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada plan to take part as well as at least two Roman Catholic dioceses that are interested in taking part. (One of the Catholic representatives at the launch said that at least it was easy to decide on the type of service to hold “It would be Mass or Mass”!) "IS YOUR CHURCH COMING AS IT IS?" Make sure you are signed up for 2009. One Church
is already!
